Lady Bird: Originality at its Best Game.

Lady Bird is written and directed by the first-time director Greta Gerwig. It is a coming of age story of a girl, named Christine McPherson, who is on the cusp of womanhood. She is a rebellious girl in her teens who is about to finish her high school in a city called Sacramento, California. She almost maintains a crazy demeanor, dyes her hair pink and prefers ‘Lady Bird’ over her real name.

This movie delineates the life of a teenage girl so flawlessly that it almost comes about as a pleasant surprise. Every performance in this movie is nuanced. The subtle idiosyncrasies which differentiate one person from other are dextrously mastered by Gerwig. The fluidic flow of dialog in this movie makes it even more palpable.

The real heart of this movie lies in the mother-daughter relationship between Lady Bird and her mother. The bitter-sweet conversations of a wilful teenager and a strict yet loving mother work like a charm and make the audience care more and more for the characters.

Lady Bird is an extremely well-acted movie. Each and every member of the cast pulls off his/her best performance. Saoirse Ronan especially is spectacular in the titular role. She, very skilfully, substantiates the naïve persona of a teenage girl throughout the movie. Laurie Metcalf too was commendable as Mrs. McPherson.

‘Lady Bird’ tells an exquisite story which touches the untouched moments of teenage life. It is extremely refreshing and original and it deserves to be praised for being so different and plainspoken.
